We decided we wanted to stay at an upscale hotel at Montreal, and we used Hotel Tonight to find a room. We saw a deal exclusive to Hotel Tonight at a 5-star hotel, so we booked a room with a Queen-sized bed at Le Mount Stephen.
Check-in was painless, although they did place a temporary hold on our credit card of $250 CAD per night to cover incidentals, which seems a little high. Considering we might use their restaurant and spa, I guess it doesn’t hurt to have the added convenience of being able to charge these items to the room.
The receptionist was very welcoming and encouraged us to engage the concierge if we needed any suggestions on where to go, what to eat, or if we wanted them to make reservations for us.
We took the elevator up to the room, which required a room key to operate. The hallway was very nice.
Our hotel room consisted of three smaller rooms: a bedroom, a bathroom, and a lounge/desk area. Each room was big enough for its purpose, but it did feel a little tight. The outlets below the TV and on either side of the bed had multiple USB charging ports, which was convenient. They also had an accessible ethernet port and HDMI port available underneath the TV.
When you enter the hotel room, you walk into a small antechamber with a tiny closet, ample desk, and long lounge chair. We got a free upgrade, so apparently this extra small room will cost extra under normal circumstances.
The bathroom was very fancy, complete with a built-in bidet. Both the floor and the toilet seat were warmed. There was, however, one odd thing about our bathroom door…
Upon arrival, we noticed the issue with the door. Actually, Davia said, “Uh, our bathroom door is broken. We need to change rooms.” We’d like to know who stayed here and rated this hotel so highly with such a grossly underperforming bathroom “door.”
Although the sliding glass door covers the opening of the bathroom, at a certain angle you can see right in to where someone might be sitting on the toilet. Needless to say, you’ll also be able to hear a pin drop in that bathroom.
Overall, the hotel is very nice, but it does seem like some things weren’t thought through. The space near the door seems like it could have been better utilized, and the design of the bathroom door is borderline negligent. That said, the service has been impeccable. The concierge and has been exceedingly helpful, offering suggestions on what to see and where to eat, and even calling bagel shops around Montreal trying to find a gluten-free bagel.
At one point, Davia left the room to gather some ice from the ice machine. She ran into a housekeeper in the hallway who was more than happy to run to the lower floor to get the ice for us.
After returning from our adventure in the Underground City, we found our room had been made up like new. The bed was completely re-made and our towels were refreshed.
At one point I used the in-room mini Nespresso machine to make myself a dark roast espresso. It was quite good, but since there was only one dark roast pod, I wondered how I would get another espresso for tomorrow.
Even though we did not elect to have the optional turndown service, when we returned from BIS restaurant, everything in our room had been refreshed; the bed had the useless, annoying covers removed and the espresso pod I had enjoyed earlier had also been replaced! The service here definitely seems top-notch.
